The population of New Zealand reached 4 million on the  24th of April 2003.The majority are descendants from the British Isles with the indigenous Maori making up about 14%. There are also large numbers of people from Asia and other Pacific Island countries. New Zealand also has close to 2 million visitors per year from all over the globe.

Three-quarters of the population live in the Warmer North Island, with over a million living in the greater Auckland area. The South Island is dominated by the Southern Alps and is rather sparsely populated.

New Zealand people are friendly and hospitable. New Zealand was voted the safest place to visit in the world.
